A vibrant new hotel website design for a beachside brand

From casual meals to elegant accommodation, Headlands Hotel offers oceanfront wining, dining and holidaying in Wollongong. But to make waves online, this Austinmer beach venue needed to better showcase its coastal location and reinvigorate its brand with a new hotel website design.

Optimising for search

To gain traction on Google’s results pages for valuable queries like ‘Austinmer restaurants’, ‘waterfront restaurant Wollongong’ and ‘beachfront dining’, we actioned a search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy from the get-go.

Our SEO experts, web designers and developers collaborated at every turn to cover all the technical and content tasks needed to improve the new website’s visibility – from its user journey, page load speeds and redirects to keyword research, site maps and meta descriptions. Equipped with industry, competitor and target audience insights, we were ready to start writing.

To bring the brand’s persona to life online, our in-house copywriters took care of copywriting for the new website. That meant deep diving into Headland Hotel’s ideal tone of voice to create fresh, fun and aspirational messaging.

Each paragraph was carefully crafted to invoke daydreams of beachside dining, scenic sundowners and coastal escapes – all whilst being strung together for search engines.

Think beautiful descriptions without the fluff, clear information without the fuss and SEO keywords weaved in without the broken sentences.

Now, the hotel website design’s words connect with locals and holidaymakers alike who wish to sit back, soak up the sun and delight in every bite.

Sharpening the visuals

Once we had the right words, it was time to find a typeface that would make them stand out. Our team helped Headlands Hotel to develop a whole new font suite as unique as their brand. Now, every letter is in line with the venue’s light, laidback and luxurious identity.

Plus, our talented creatives blended a mix of new and existing photography to better convey the quality of their facilities, the beauty of their beachfront setting, and the exciting atmosphere at their many events.

Making the user
experience a breeze

We expanded the sitemap, elevated its content and perfected the user journey to better highlight Headland Hotel’s unique offering.

First, we transformed the Drink & Dine PDF into on-page content complemented by extra pages, including dining locations, weekly specials and pop-ups. Wedding galleries were also added to showcase the venue’s adaptability. Next, we made the hotel’s Room pages more accessible, with a new design that features a fixed scroll gallery that shares room features so that users know exactly what they can enjoy. This is a massive upgrade from the previous site, whereby room pages could only be found via a block on the Homepage or pop-ups on the Room overview page. From there, we turned our focus to the ‘What’s On’ section. This involved using Custom Events Calendar Pro to create an interactive planner that enables users to search events by type, location, and keywords. Each venue option also has its own dedicated page, sharing more information with potential attendees.

Taking the hassle out of admin

The old website was full of hard-coded layouts that had to be updated by developers every time a tweak was required. So, we wanted to make content management simple for the Headlands Hotel team moving forward.

Our solution? A user-friendly WordPress theme website with stress-free upkeep and drag-and-drop blocks, plus a series of training videos from our experts.
