Justice Beyond Borders: A Global Mapping Tool

The Clooney Foundation for Justice was founded because of needs identified independently by each of the co-Presidents, Amal and George Clooney, during the course of their work. CFJ had a vision to create “Justice Beyond Borders”, an online tool that enables survivors, lawyers, civil society actors, law enforcement, and practitioners to make use of existing laws to access justice. We had the honour of bringing this vision to life with an interactive web app and data visualisation tool to display the results of a months-long data-gathering and legal analysis project by The CFJ team.

A first-of-its-kind data visualisation tool

We utilised the simplicity of a headless WordPress CMS for basic content management & caching of data from an Airtable database accessed via the WordPress REST API.

Justice Beyond Borders tracks the criminalisation of serious international crimes across 217 countries and territories, displaying the conditions for exercising jurisdiction over each crime, plus the procedural requirements for triggering successful cases.

Making accountability the norm and impunity the exception.

Another project we’ve delivered for this client is the official cfj.org website – A custom designed and developed WordPress site showcasing the impact of CFJ’s three initiatives which help protect the most vulnerable survivors of human rights abuses in over 40 countries.
