Media Release: Newcastle, Australia – April 15, 2024
Celebrating 25 years of business in 2024, Redback is one of the largest regionally-owned and operated digital agencies in Australia. And now its Newcastle-based team is being recognised for their exceptional work on a worldwide scale!
Redback’s website for The Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ) has just been nominated for the ‘Best Visual Design – Function’ category in the 28th Annual Webby Awards.
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honour” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organisation honouring excellence on the Internet.
A worthy cause
Founded by co-Presidents, Amal and George Clooney, CFJ wages justice to shape a world where human rights are protected – a global mission Redback is deeply grateful to be a part of, accolades aside.
To showcase CFJ’s efforts to safeguard survivors of human rights abuses in over 40 countries, the Redback team designed and developed a custom WordPress website (check it out at cfj.org).
Users can now explore the enormous impact of CFJ’s initiatives through innovative, intuitive and interactive designs, which have caught the IADAS’s attention.
“Honourees like The Clooney Foundation for Justice and Redback are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, President of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 13,000 projects we reviewed this year.”
No matter the outcome, this nomination is a success in itself, and has put Newcastle’s commercial and creative industry on the global map for digital mastery!
Director of Redback, Dave Eddy: “The Webby Awards is the leading international award honouring excellence on the Internet. For little old Redback to be recognised amongst the incredibly stiff competition from global brands like Apple, Google and Gucci… What can I say? It's mind-blowing, exciting and a clear reflection of our team’s commitment to delivering world-class work.”
As a nominee, Redback’s CFJ website is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. Vote now to help the Newcastle agency take it home!
Voting closes on April 18th.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, and honoured in a star-studded show at Cipriani Wall Street. Winners will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches.
Past 5-Word Speeches include: Steve Wilhite’s “It’s Pronounced “Jif” not ‘Gif’”; NASA’s “Houston We Have A Webby”; and SZA’s “The Internet Scares Me. Thanks.”
Proud to be a Non-Profit Honouree
The IADAS has also recognised the CFJ website as an Official Honouree for the Webby Awards’ ‘Charitable Organisations/Non-Profit’ category. Only granted to the top 25% of entries, this distinction marks Redback’s work as some of the best on the Internet!
And it couldn’t be for a greater cause. In the face of alarming global trends, CFJ unearths evidence of mass atrocities, equips victims with free legal support and strives to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
Given the magnitude of CFJ’s mission, getting its digital experience just right was crucial. The Non-Profit’s website showcases its human rights initiatives – TrialWatch®, Waging Justice for Women and the Docket – through powerful stories, educational insights and engaging online tools.
With this empowering resource, we can all get involved in CFJ’s fight for justice.
Asser Khattab, Communications Officer at CFJ, has praised Redback for the Webby-worthy site, "Thank you very much for your marvellous work. We are very honoured to be nominated for a Webby alongside Redback."
